After more than a year of development, multiple public hearings, and a final round of revisions, the Oshtemo Township Board voted 6-0 to adopt its 2045 Comprehensive Master Plan and Master Streets Plan.
The plans are built around six core ideas: building a shared sense of belonging, addressing housing demand, shifting commercial development toward smaller-scale local uses, managing growth with context-sensitive design, and improving transportation connectivity.
One notable last-minute change: a property near 9th Street and KL Avenue was redesignated to neighborhood mixed-use after a property owner and neighbors spoke up at a planning commission hearing.
A historical addition was also made. The Harris family, identified as one of Oshtemo’s earliest and first African American families, was added to the plan’s history section after staff noticed the omission during final review.
