Since 1987, OutFront Kalamazoo has been the LGBTQIA+ resource center for Kalamazoo County, a place to find services, connect with community, and live authentically and free from discrimination.
In this Stories That Work for Good feature, staff, volunteers, and community members share what OutFront means to them. One person came out for the first time in their 50s. Another describes helping young trans people access resources they wish had existed when they were growing up. A volunteer talks about building community through the OutFront men’s group. A staff member walks through the range of direct services available: gender affirming products, a needle exchange program, access to Naloxone and fentanyl test strips, youth programming, and a resource guide with hundreds of pages of support for LGBTQ people in the area.
What runs through every voice in this video is the same thing: the value of a place where you are seen, welcomed, and not alone.
“There is a space for you no matter how you identify, no matter who you are,” one community member says. “There is somewhere in this world where you are welcomed and you are loved.”
If you or someone you know is LGBTQIA+ and looking for support, community, or resources in Kalamazoo — OutFront Kalamazoo is the place to start. Visit outfrontkzoo.org or stop in.
