How One Membership Unlocks More Than 1,000 Tools for Kalamazoo Residents

Stories That Work For Good: Community Homeworks' Tool Library

Community Homeworks’ Tool Library gives Kalamazoo County residents access to more than 1,000 tools, from everyday essentials to rarely used specialty equipment. Members can borrow anything from hammers and power drills to ozone machines, live animal traps, and power washers — items most people only need once or twice a year — rather than buying, storing, and maintaining them individually. One member said borrowing tools for garden, fence, and deck projects saved roughly $4,800 they would have otherwise spent.

Membership is open to any Kalamazoo County resident 18 or older and operates on a pay-what-you-can basis. The full tool catalog is available at communityhomeworks.org, where members can search for what they need before picking it up at 812 Bryant Street.
