Kalamazoo Township’s Board of Trustees approved resolutions Tuesday setting base pay for the township treasurer and clerk and moving marijuana administration to staff.
State law requires township boards that don’t hold an annual meeting to set officers’ pay by resolution. The first resolution sets Treasurer Clara Robinson’s annual base salary at $75,000, effective Dec. 1, 2026. Supervisor David Combs said the resolution ends additional staff duties the board assigned the treasurer earlier this year. He said it does not change her overall pay, and that the board had committed to keeping her pay whole when those duties ended.
The second resolution sets Clerk Lisa Mackie’s annual base salary at $75,000, which Combs said continues the clerk’s current base. It also designates a $5,000 stipend for administering Freedom of Information Act requests, effective with the first payroll in January 2027. The resolution says marijuana administration, previously assigned to the clerk, will move to a staff member.
The board then voted to assign the planning and zoning administrator as marijuana administrator, effective Jan. 1, 2027. Combs said the administrator will use the next couple of months of overlap for training. The township’s recommended 2027 budget lists the shift as ending a $10,000 stipend. Combs said that money can help offset planning and zoning department costs.
Board members also said they want to discuss pay for all board members, possibly at the board’s retreat. The board did not take up other pay changes Tuesday.
The treasurer pay and marijuana changes are both part of the township’s recommended 2027 budget, which the board will hear at a public hearing on October 26 at 9:30 a.m.
