I heard the sound of a shutter – a photo being taken. Then another. And another. All quickly, with only small pauses inbetween. If you walked into Public Media Network, it wouldn’t be too common to hear a camera shutter. Most of the projects people do here are video and audio based, after all. And it was strange to hear so many photos being taken all so quickly.
I kept hearing these repetitive sounds as I’m sitting at my desk and I’m thinking, “what are those kids doing?”
This week and last, we’ve had summer camps going here. Turns out the campers were making stop motion animations! Which requires a lot of photos be taken to mimic the appearance of inanimate objects moving.
Not only did the campers get to make stop motion animations, they got to try their hand at podcasting, experimenting with green screens, and told stories of their own creation through all these different formats.
Last week I got to watch the showcase the kids held at the end of the week for their parents and loved ones. I gotta say… those kids are good! They had me chuckling at their jokes and in awe of their creativity.
A parent, Laura, shared with us that she has never seen her son, Jude, this engaged before with this camp. “He comes home from camp and it’s all he talks about.”
Don’t you love seeing the unbridled creativity of youth?! If you have a young person in your life who would love to learn something new, make friends, and unleash their creativity – check out our next summer opportunities coming up, including camps for vlogging and a program for documentary making.
