Amplify Kalamazoo

Are you tired of the type of news stories you see about your community? Do you feel important stories and voices are left out of media? Then take control and report on your local community.

Public Media Network’s Amplify Kalamazoo program puts the power of media into your hands to tell share news and information that builds the community. More people and more perspectives involved amplifies more ideas in the community and creates a healthier news and information system.

Media systems have historically underrepresented people not in power, including people of color, LGBTQ+, low-income and others facing systemic inequities.

We want to ensure that all people in our local communities can access news and information, that represents them, provides information they need, and equips them to engage for positive civic change.

Amplify Kalamazoo is a community-powered reporting program. Our Neighborhood Reporter program is fueled by people reporting on their community. 

Neighborhood Reporters receive training and mentorship in how to effectively use media storytelling to tell stories on a variety of topics including arts, local events, civics, issues, and more. Pick a topic area or cover a variety of areas. Reporters whose completed stories are selected to be a part of Amplify Kalamazoo receive a stipend.
