Media Shift is a 15- week hands-on program designed for students in 5th to 12th grade, where you can learn how to create powerful short videos on topics that matter to them to inspire action and awareness! This program allows you to tell your own story while building media skills that can really make a difference.
In this hands-on program, participants will explore the fundamentals of documentary filmmaking with a strong focus on impact-driven storytelling. From concept development to final edits, participants will work on producing a 6–9 minute short documentary centered on a social issue, movement, or local cause they care deeply about.
Throughout the course, participants will learn how to:
Conduct interviews and research with integrity and impact
Film and edit with intention and authenticity
Navigate ethical questions in media work
Build narratives that resonate with diverse audiences
The course will culminate in a community screening and discussion event, where participants will present their finished films, share their creative journey, and engage in a Q&A session with the public.
