Kalamazoo city commissioners heard an update this week on the Blueprint for Peace, the city’s long-term plan to reduce gun violence. Dr. Kenlana Ferguson, Executive Director of Michigan Transformation Collective, presented alongside Tia Whitley and Dominica Sims on the initiative’s public health approach to prevention and intervention, and discussed the need for sustainable funding as the program matures. Commissioners and presenters also discussed how the city can be a stronger partner to the community organizations doing frontline work, and the importance of clearer role coordination among groups in the ecosystem.
