Comstock applied for a tornado siren grant. It wasn’t eligible — now what?

The township’s bid for federal grant funding to purchase early warning sirens was denied on a technicality: tornado warning systems are specifically excluded from the program, despite language in the grant bulletin that suggested otherwise.

The township needs 10 sirens to cover the community.

With the grant door closed, Supervisor Martin is proposing a phased approach, purchasing roughly a third of the needed sirens at a time over three years, pending the results of a financial audit expected by early June.

Board members agreed the sirens remain a priority for residents.
