Comstock Township Board Appoints Three New Trustees, Restores Full Board

The Comstock Charter Township Board appointed three new trustees during a special meeting September 11, returning the board to its full seven-member membership.

Joe VanBruggen, John Paver, and Kirk Hart were appointed to fill vacancies on the Township Board. VanBruggen and Paver took their oath of office during the meeting. Hart, who was not present, will have his oath recorded before the board’s next regular meeting.

Board members said they evaluated candidates on interview performance, professional experience, and community involvement before making their selections. All applicants were thanked and encouraged to stay involved with the township.

The appointments follow a period of turnover for the township board, which lost a majority of its members within about a week in mid-August after four board members, Clerk Nicole Beauchamp and Trustees Kristie Cherry, Bob Pratt, and Terry McIver, resigned. A temporary trustee, appointed by the Kalamazoo County Election Commission, briefly restored quorum before Amber Lawrence was appointed township clerk.

With VanBruggen, Paver, and Hart now seated, Comstock Township’s Board of Trustees is back to having all seats filled.
