The Kalamazoo Township Board of Trustees held a public hearing on the potential removal of Zoning Board of Appeals member Sean Blue.
The hearing was held under the Michigan Zoning Enabling Act, which allows the township board to remove a Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) member for alleged misfeasance or nonfeasance in office following written charges and a public hearing. The board took no action Monday; a decision on whether grounds exist for removal is expected at a future meeting.
Supervisor Combs opened the hearing by outlining the basis for the recommendation, pointing to Blue’s conduct during a zoning interpretation matter involving his own property.
Blue denied the charges, telling the board the matter stems from a disagreement over how the township’s zoning ordinance applies to a proposed accessory building on his property, and that he relied on prior guidance from township staff that he says was later reversed. He argued the dispute reflects an unresolved ordinance interpretation question rather than misconduct.
