The Natural Features Protection Review Board approved Phase Two of the Westgate Sports Complex at 1617 North Drake Road, a publicly owned youth athletic facility, with conditions. The project had come before the board multiple times due to woodland preservation requirements and concerns about potential bat habitat as nine dead and dying trees on the site had been identified as possible roosting locations for bat species with significant population declines. The board’s approval requires tree protection fencing to remain in place during construction, submission of any required state or federal permits to the city, and no work beginning until full site plan review is complete.
