Kalamazoo residents will have a chance to review and comment on the city’s draft strategic vision goals from late August through late September.
Interim Director Christina Anderson updated commissioners on the timeline at Monday’s Committee of the Whole meeting, part of the ongoing Imagine Kalamazoo 2035 process. The strategic vision sets the city’s long-term goals and guiding principles — the high-level document that Anderson said shapes the projects, programs, and policies the city pursues going forward, distinct from the master plan, which will translate those goals into specifics like land use and transportation.
Commissioners have until August 21 to submit final feedback on the current goal and outcome statements before staff finalize the document for public release. Once the public review period opens, staff plan to track how each comment they receive is incorporated into the final draft, or why it isn’t, so residents can see how their input shaped the outcome.
What’s next: After the review period closes in late September, staff will bring a finalized draft strategic vision back to the City Commission for consideration, with a target approval date of October 19.
