Gavel to Gavel: A Look at Upcoming Local Government Meetings and Key Agenda Items – August 18 – 20

It’s a new week, which means a closer look at this week’s local government agendas.

Monday (08/18):

City of Kalamazoo Committee of the Whole (5:00 PM, PMN4): The Committee of the Whole will hold a work session to hear presentations from Kalamazoo County Health & Community Services and Can Do Kalamazoo.

Kalamazoo City Commission (7:00 PM, PMN4): The City Commission will open their meeting with a Public Hearing to receive comments on the establishment of a Neighborhood Enterprise Zone (NEZ) within three blocks bounded by East Frank Street, Walbridge Street, East Ransom Street, and North Pitcher Street. Charter Township of Comstock Board of Trustees (6:00 PM, PMN3): The Comstock Township Board will review 2024’s Audited Financials, discuss Budget Adjustments, discuss Second Readings of the Mobile Vendor Ordinance and a Rezoning Request at 6668 E ML, and address a formal complaint from the Treasurer’s team against another Trustee. The Board will also continue discussion on Legal Billing and the Battery Energy Storage Systems Moratorium.

Tuesday (08/19):

Kalamazoo County Committee of the Whole (5:00 PM, PMN4): The Committee of the Whole meeting will include investment reports, budget discussion, and more. The meeting will move to closed session to discuss attorney-client privileged communication.

Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners (6:30 PM, PMN4): The County Board will hold a public hearing for Maple Hill Leaseholds about a Brownfield Plan; as well as discussions on appointments to committees, position creations and eliminations, contract adjustments, and more.

City of Kalamazoo Historic District Commission (6:00 PM, PMN2): Tuesday’s Historic District Commission meeting has been canceled.

Oshtemo Township Budget Meeting (5:30 PM, PMN3): The Oshtemo Township Board will have 2026 Budget Discussion including HR Recommendations, Revenue and Expenditure Reports, Capital Improvement Plan, and the Potential for New Positions in the Township.

Wednesday (08/20):

City of Kalamazoo Environmental Concerns Committee (4:30 PM, PMN4): When available, the August 20th Environmental Concerns Committee meeting agenda can be found here.
