Gavel to Gavel: Upcoming Local Government Meetings and Key Agenda Items – December 1 – 5

Monday (12/01):

City of Kalamazoo Committee of the Whole (5:00 PM, PMN4): The Committee of the Whole will meet Monday to hear a presentation on Utility Rates.

Kalamazoo City Commission (7:00 PM, PMN4): In Monday’s Business Meeting, the City Commission will review and vote on several contract agreements, extensions, and more. Key agenda items include a first reading of an amendment to parts of the City Code to change the Utility Rates for Drinking Water, an approval of Property Sale agreement at 459 N. Rose St., and first reading of the proposed ordinance to rezone 4301 Stadium Drive to Community Commercial zoning. This ordinance is presented to the board with unfavorable recommendation from the City Planning Commission, and another Public Hearing regarding the rezoning request will be held January 26, 2026.

Comstock Township Board of Trustees (5:00 PM, PMN3): Comstock’s Township Board will hold a Special Meeting at 5:00 PM, with a regular business meeting to follow immediately after. However, the Special Meeting will be held in closed session. During the regular meeting, the Board will review and discuss the Chicken Ordinance, Accessory Dwelling Ordinance, and Battery Energy Storage Systems Ordinance (BESS) Text Amendments. The Board will also address complaints, and discuss waiving Attorney-Client Privilege on the Clark Hill Report.

Tuesday (12/02):

Road Commission of Kalamazoo County (3:00 PM, PMN2): When available, RCKC meeting materials can be found here.

Kalamazoo County Committee of the Whole (4:00 PM, PMN4): The County work session meeting will feature a Discover Kalamazoo Annual Strategy Presentation from Jane Ghosh, as well as first reading of an authorization to issue Capital Improvement Bonds and reimburse from bond proceeds for the KCECAD Indoor Youth Sports Facility.

Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners (6:30 PM, PMN4): The County Board’s long consent agenda will focus on position creations and eliminations, contract approvals, and more. The Board also intends to declare Housing a Public Health Crisis, moving forward towards addressing Housing insecurity and increased costs.

Wednesday (12/03):

City of Kalamazoo Civil Rights Board (5:00 PM, PMN4): The City of Kalamazoo Civil Rights Board meets Wednesday and will discuss appointing a Board Chair, discuss roles of board members, and more.

Thursday (12/04):

City of Kalamazoo Planning Commission (7:00 PM, PMN4): The City of Kalamazoo Planning Commission will hold public hearings for a request for a Special Use Permit to develop a gas station at 918 Riverview Drive as well as a Special Use Permit to redevelop the utility building on the property for Consumers Energy at 1204 E Alcott Street.
