Gavel to Gavel: Upcoming Local Government Meetings and Key Agenda Items – September 8 – 11

Let’s take a look at this week’s upcoming government meetings and key agenda items.

Monday (09/08):

Comstock Township Board of Trustees Special Meeting (3:00 PM, PMN3): The Comstock Township Board of Trustees is scheduled to meet Monday for a closed session. At the end of closed session they will discuss possible action items from closed session. Learn more about closed sessions here.

Comstock Township Parks and Recreation Commission (6:00 PM, PMN3): The Parks Commission will discuss Robert Morris Park Source Testing as well as Neal Developments including playground and security camera discussion. The commission will recognize their park of the month, present a project list update and revenue and expenditure reports.

Kalamazoo Township Board of Trustees (7:30 PM, PMN4): The Kalamazoo Township Board will hold Special Assessment Public Hearings for Police Operating and Community Policing, Police Capital, Fire Operating and Capital, Street Lighting, and Solid Waste and Recycling.

Tuesday (09/09):

Road Commission of Kalamazoo County (3:00 PM, PMN2): The Road Commission will vote on Approval of the Final Construction Plan of the Comstock Avenue construction project from Sprinkle Road to River Street. Then, requests for approval of purchases of Cab and Chassis Truck Purchase and a discussion on Surplus Real Estate Purchase. Finally, the board will vote on approval of the Oshtemo Township Local Road Contract.

Oshtemo Township Board of Trustees (5:30 PM, PMN3): Oshtemo’s Township Board will begin Tuesday’s meeting by hearing a presentation on the Central County Transit Authority by Sean McBride as well as a Public Works presentation. The board will also appoint Dusty Farmer to Central County Transit Authority Board. Read the full agenda here.

City of Kalamazoo Citizens Public Safety Review and Appeal Board (6:00 PM, PMN4): The Citizens Public Safety Review and Appeal Board (CPSRAB) provides community oversight of the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety. CPSRAB hears community complaints that are appealed after they have been investigated by the Office of Professional Standards. The Board also serves in an advisory role to improve public safety service and polices, and works to build community trust, credibility and confidence.

Wednesday (09/10):

City of Kalamazoo Historic Preservation Commission (6:00 PM, PMN4): Wednesday’s Historic Preservation Commission will consist of a Planning Session for the KHPC 2025-26.

Thursday (09/11):

City of Kalamazoo Utility Policy Committee (8:30 AM, PMN4): Utility Policy Committee Documents can be found here.

Oshtemo Township Planning Commission (6:00 PM, PMN3): When available, the Oshtemo Township Planning Commission meeting materials can be found here.

Comstock Township Planning Commission (6:00 PM, PMN2): The Comstock Planning Commission will address a rezone request and hold Public Hearing for 7667 Arden, as well as conduct a closed session.

City of Kalamazoo Zoning Board of Appeals (7:00 PM, PMN4): The Zoning Board will hold Public Hearings for two Edison Community Partners and Ronald Flowers of Flowers Automotive Recycling respectively. Edison Community Partners is requesting a dimensional variance at 1900 Belford Street, and Flowers Automotive is requesting use and dimensional variances for 1008 E. Crosstown Pkwy, 1008 E. Crosstown Pkwy Rear, 1016 E. Crosstown Pkwy, 1007 Fourth St., and 1011 Fourth St.
