How Linda and Fritz are taking action

Fritz and Linda see their monthly donation as a way of taking action to defend democracy.

Have you noticed how our communities have changed over time because of the loss of local news, information, and connections? Fritz and Linda MacDonald have – and they’re taking action to make things better!

“Our democracy is suffering due to the loss of local news organizations. What began with slow erosion has gained speed. If there is going to be a democracy to hand on to future generations, it will have to be built, strengthened, and defended not just in the city of Kalamazoo.

Democracy, small d, will be built beginning with local people living in counties and in states. It cannot be built from the top down. Surely we understand that by now. Everything that has a chance of lasting begins from the bottom up.

We are monthly donors to Public Media Network for many reasons. Giving monthly means I know a news gathering and publishing organization is part of my way of taking action to support and defend the values of democracy. That begins with believing we all belong. All of us, not just a few.

I hope others will consider giving monthly as much as they are able. Consider what you’ll be paying for that daily latte and then turn those dollars into local news gathering and reporting. Instead of a daily latte, maybe a weekly one! We need more local reporting and we’ll continue to need more of it as time goes on.”

I really appreciate what Fritz and Linda shared. It’s easy to feel helpless and not know what you can do to make the change you want to see, and I’m glad they’ve found a way to make change that works for them. What do you think?
