Public Media Network Endorses the Media Power Collaborative Policy Agenda
At Public Media Network, we believe that everyone should have access to local news, government information, and the ability to share their own stories—without corporate or political interference. But today, local journalism is struggling, and too many people are left without the information they need to participate in civic life.
That’s why we’re proud to endorse the Media Power Collaborative Policy Agenda, a bold vision for strengthening independent, community-first media. This agenda isn’t just about saving journalism—it’s about making sure local news serves the public, not profits.
What’s in the Policy Agenda?
The agenda calls for policies that:
✅ Invest in community media so everyone has a voice
✅ Ensure access to local government coverage so people can stay informed and engaged
✅ Support media education so more people can create and share their own stories
✅ Strengthen independent media that serves the public, not corporations
Why This Matters for Our Community
For years, big media corporations and shrinking newsrooms have left many communities without access to local stories, government updates, and civic resources. At Public Media Network, we work every day to fill that gap.
📺 We provide free access to local government meetings so people can see what’s happening in their community.
🎭 We showcase local arts and culture to uplift voices and creativity in Kalamazoo.
🎙️ We train and equip people with media storytelling skills so they can share their own perspectives.
Community Media Centers like Public Media Network play a critical role in keeping independent media strong. But we need policies that support this work—and we need community members like you to stand with us.
