Western Michigan University Higher Education for the Justice-Involved (HEJI) has operated in close partnership with the Michigan Department of Corrections since 2017. Recently, speakers Dr. Dale Brown, Dr. Ann Miles, and McGwire Hidden talk about a humanities-rich higher education in the liberal arts, which can offer something different than typical vocational educations, religious study, counseling, and so on. These lectures were presented at a recent Osher Lifelong Learning Institute event and offer insight into the importance of furthering education for self-formation.
“Through the study of the humanities, a desire for perpetual self-formation can be ignited in the hearts of students and teachers.”
