Monthly donors help sustain ongoing access to local media and community connection. Dee Chauvin, a producer and monthly donor, shared why they choose to give each month:
“I use PMN’s services every week. It has brought all these people into my life, and it’s enriched my life so much – I’ve gotten training from PMN, I’ve been able to get assistance with videos I’m working on and learning new technology – it’s a really valuable resource!
A big part is knowing what is happening at a local level. It can give people some power back, because it can be really overwhelming when you’re watching the national news and seeing national stories, and you’re very separate from it.
But seeing things that are happening locally, you realize you can make an impact, and you can be a part of it. It decreases isolation, too. I feel like everybody’s feeling a little disconnected sometimes, but I think PMN brings people together.
Instead of making a one-time gift, I became a monthly donor so that it was prioritized, so that it’s consistent – and because I would forget to make another one-time gift! But PMN is part of my life, and being a monthly donor makes sure that contribution is a part of my life too.
I have so many subscriptions that I’m signed up for that I don’t even notice for $10 a month, I can give to PMN too, because I do use the service so much and find it so valuable. $10 a month is like a Netflix subscription; $20 a month is like two coffees, right? You can compare it and decide ‘I do value this more than all of those things’ – then I can make a decision about how much I can really give.
I hope that my gift can make other people find this service as well, because I do love coming and meeting new people here and coming to the different events that PMN has. It’s just a great community and I want to support that community.”
