“Knowledge, empowerment, and expression…”

It's important for the community to have a safe place to share viewpoints, conversations, and explore engaging with people different from yourself.

Some of the most meaningful things that happen in a community begin with something simple: a place for people to gather.

When John Safapour was looking for a home for Meaningful Conversations, a weekly discussion group centered on listening, reflection, and engagement, he found more than just a meeting space. He found a place where people could come together openly, share perspectives, and build connection.

“PMN is about knowledge, empowerment and expression for all walks of life without any limitations or barriers for creativity,” John said.

Since 2023, nearly 400 people have taken part in these Monday night conversations. Week after week, neighbors have come together to listen, learn from one another, and engage with ideas that strengthen community life. For many, it is a rare chance to slow down, be heard, and to really hear others in return.

While here, John found there was a lot more to this community resource than just a room for people to gather: “PMN offers an outlet for expression, and the tools and the resources…which is rare to find.”

But what continues to make the biggest difference is not only the space itself – it’s the feeling people have when they come here. “The opportunity PMN offered us is not just location, it’s also the people too,” John shared. “For example, it’s the bright cheery faces that welcome us, strangers, walking into something they have no idea about.”

That welcome feeling matters. It’s what turns strangers into neighbors, and neighbors into viewers and creators who feel more connected to the place they live and the people around them.

Reflecting on the broader impact, John said, “It’s a remarkable community resource for learning and creating content to enrich civil society. Nowhere else have we seen this.”

When spaces like this exist, conversations that might never happen elsewhere can take root – conversations that inspire understanding, belonging, and action in the community.

And I don’t just mean the physical space of the community access center or even the studios. I’m also talking about the platforms that these local videos live, where people have the space to share a story that matters to them, to dive deep into the community, and to get involved in something that matters.

You can provide that inspiration, belonging, and an opportunity to engage with the community for a neighbor by making a donation today.

And to those of you who already donate, thank you! None of this would be possible without you. Your support helps provide a welcoming, public space where meaningful conversations can take place, and even more importantly – a way for those important conversations to reach beyond the room.
