Let’s take a closer look at some of this week’s local government meetings in Kalamazoo, Oshtemo, and Comstock.
Monday (05/11)
City of Kalamazoo Committee of the Whole (5:00 PM, PMN4): The City’s Committee of the Whole will focus their work session on the Childcare Coalition Presentation.
Kalamazoo City Commission (7:00 PM, PMN4): Kalamazoo’s City Commission will vote on the adoption a Project Plan for Water System Improvements, vote on the approval of Contract with MDOT for the 4-to-3 lane conversion of Portage Street with bike lanes from Cork Street to Stockbridge Avenue, and voting on the acceptance of a $3,225,000 funding package, including a Railroad Crossing Elimination Grant and State Incentive Payments.
Comstock Parks and Recreation (6:00 PM, PMN3): Comstock Parks and Recreation will continue work and discussion on the property management of the Old Football Field, discussing the quotes provided for tree clearing and removal. The Commission will also provide reports for revenue, expenditures, and the May Director’s report.
Kalamazoo Township Board of Trustees (7:00 PM, PMN2): The Kalamazoo Township Board of Trustees Regular Meeting scheduled for May 11, 2026 has been canceled due to a lack of quorum.
Tuesday (05/12)
Oshtemo Township Board (5:30 PM, PMN3): The Township Board meeting in Oshtemo on Tuesday evening will start with a work session regarding the Burn Ordinance as well as Battery Energy Storage Systems for intended board discussion. Then, the board will vote on purchase approvals and discuss the proposed flagpole and courtyard project. Read the full agenda for the May 12th meeting here.
City of Kalamazoo Citizens Public Safety Review and Appeals Board (6:00 PM, PMN4): The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety will share information and updates with the CPSRAB, as well as provide a Police-Citizen Report for the board to review and question.
Wendesday (05/13)

Thursday (05/14)
City of Kalamazoo Utility Policy Committee (8:30 AM, PMN4): When available, Utility Policy Committee meeting documents are posted here.
Oshtemo Township Planning Commission (6:00 PM, PMN3): Oshtemo Township’s Planning Commission plans to conduct a public hearing on the Oshtemo 2045 Comprehensive Plan and the Master Streets Plan, the Commissioners will consider a resolution recommending adoption of the current plans.
Comstock Township Planning Commission (6:00 PM, PMN2): Comstock’s Planning Commission will meet Thursday to hold a Mobile Vendor Ordinance Public Hearing, provide commission By-Law Updates, and hear a presentation UMICH Solar and Wind. Then, continued discussion and feedback regarding the housing study.
City of Kalamazoo Zoning Board of Appeals (7:00 PM, PMN4): The Zoning Board will hold public hearings for five properties where Statewide Rentals LLC is requesting variances from the Natural Features Protection Ordinance. These include separate duplexes with proposals for driveways and parking lots that seek to encroach into protected slopes and slope setbacks. Read more in the full agenda here.
