Who’s watching the license plate readers? A city oversight board is forming a subcommittee to find out

1 Min Read

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety recently updated its policy governing Flock license plate readers, cameras that automatically scan and log plate data, and the Citizens Public Safety Review and Appeals Board agreed to form a subcommittee to review it. Assistant Chief Victor Green shared that the updated policy will be posted to KDPS’s transparency page. The subcommittee will examine the policy with an eye toward community safety and privacy concerns.

The board also received an update that a new hiring class is underway at KDPS, and a board member announced his resignation to join the Fire Academy, stepping down to avoid a conflict of interest.
