The Comstock Charter Township Board approved a full-time deputy treasurer position and discussed security upgrades for Township Hall during its July 6 meeting.
After several weeks of discussion, the board voted to offer William Knight the newly created full-time deputy treasurer position, with a $40,000 salary plus benefits, contingent on passing the background, drug, and credit checks required of all township employees. Treasurer Sandra Bloomfield said the added workload, especially heading into tax season, required a full-time replacement following the departure of former Finance Director Bret Padgett.
The board also authorized Township Attorney Robert Thall to attend an upcoming Homeless Committee meeting directly, aiming to speed up work on a draft ordinance addressing trespassing on township property. Separately, the board reviewed a roughly $2,200 quote to upgrade Township Hall’s security system with hardwired door locks and an additional panic button, following an incident in which a person was found sleeping at the front entrance. No formal action was taken on the security quote.
Following a closed-session personnel evaluation, the board voted to raise Ordinance Enforcement Officer Dakota Szczepanski’s pay to $30 per hour.
Several residents used public comment to raise concerns about board transparency, referencing an ongoing legal dispute involving board members that has been covered separately by other local news outlets.
