PSA Days: “A Real Blessing for Nonprofits”

How can we help the nonprofits in our community to get the word out about what they do?

Nonprofits often struggle with small budgets and short staffing. The uncertain and missing funding that is all too common these days makes it even worse. How can we help the nonprofits in our community to get the word out about what they do?

That’s where the idea of PSA Days came from. Every so often, PMN will host a day for nonprofits like AACORN Community, Ministry with Community, and the Institute of Public Scholarship to come in and make their own video with the help of PMN staff.

When nonprofits have a video to share about who they are and what they do, it makes it easier for them to tell their own story. Many people in Kalamazoo and beyond may not even know about the problems that these nonprofits work to solve. By creating a video and putting it out on our channels and website – along with the nonprofit’s own website and socials – it brings attention to the community. Through spreading this information and sharing their story, these nonprofits are able to secure more support as well as bring their services to more people.

Mary Pickett, executive director of AACORN, reached out after making her PSA to say, “I wanted to take a moment to thank you for creating the space that allows nonprofits to create a quality PSA… Having the file made accessible to us for use on other platforms is a real blessing for small nonprofits with limited, if any, dedicated marketing dollars.”

And while it’s free or low-cost to the nonprofits to get a video made here, it’s not free for us to make them! Without support from people like you, we wouldn’t be able to provide these options to our nonprofit friends.

Through gifts from our monthly donor crew, we are able to have a pool of funds to use throughout the year to help nonprofits when the need arises. One monthly donation = multiple nonprofits helped! The work they do in our community is vital.

Think of a monthly donation like a subscription to a streaming or music service – only instead of getting movies and songs, you’ll get to help the nonprofits right here in Greater Kalamazoo to share their stories. Any amount makes a difference and you can cancel anytime: join our monthly givers here!
