Kalamazoo Township trustees approved revised financial policies, a 2027 fee schedule and a retirement plan resolution at their September 28 meeting.
The revised financial policies include provisions covering township payroll. The board also approved the published fee schedule prepared for the 2027 budget process. A board member said the only significant changes are lower planning and zoning fees, which the member tied to the township adding a planner to its staff. The board adopted a resolution changing the auto vesting age in the township’s MERS defined contribution plan. Trustees voted to table the revised personnel policies, including benefit revisions, to Tuesday, October 6.
The board will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, October 6, at 6 p.m. Supervisor David Combs said it will cover the annual budget and the board’s first consideration of proposals to manage the Grand Prairie Golf Course. The board issued a request for proposals for a golf course manager, and Combs said the submission window closes September 30. He said the board will decide whether to move forward with a proposal or with a staff position, the option discussed earlier. Combs said Township Superintendent Tracie Moored is expected to send the proposals to board members ahead of the meeting.
Board members also discussed the recent boil water advisory. Combs said the township received notice when the advisory went public, and he said the Kalamazoo Regional Water and Wastewater Commission has told the City of Kalamazoo that the township needs earlier notice. That would let the township update its app and inform residents.
Clerk Lisa Mackie shared that absentee ballots for the November 3 election are being mailed. Residents can check their voter registration at michigan.gov/vote, and she noted that early voting will run nine days.
