Oshtemo Township’s board adopted an operating millage of 1.75 mills and a road millage of 1.25 mills on September 29.
The board approved the rates on a 5-1 roll call vote, with one member absent, at a special meeting on the 2027 budget. Members discussed how the operating rate relates to parks funding and the general fund balance. Supervisor Cheri Bell said the township will complete and sign the tax rate request form, known as Form L-4029, and send it to the county. The state requires the form to be submitted by September 30.
The rest of the meeting was department-by-department budget review, with no other formal votes. Topics included:
- Building, assessing and ordinance enforcement
- Fire funding
- Human resources and staffing
- Legal
- Communications
- Township facilities and maintenance
- Planning
- Public works, including roads and utilities
- Parks
Parks drew the longest discussion. Board members also gave informal direction on several staffing items and on plans to revisit how fire funding is divided.
Bell said the budget returns to the board October 13. That is the last planned board discussion before a draft is released for public review.
